The African American Regional Educational Alliances (AAREA) is joining the #GivingTuesday movement, a global effort that inspires personal philanthropy and encourages bigger, better and smarter charitable giving during the holiday season.
AAREA kicks off our student STEM scholarship drive with the 3rd annual #GivingTuesday on December 2, 2014.
STEM Scholarships for Students!
AAREA is raising funds to provide scholarships to children participating in STEM and college awareness programming through the STEM STEPS for Success Project. This project aims to enhance the STEM success and college eligibility rates of African American students in Alameda County through youth development, family enrichment, and professional development opportunities.
Recent statistics show:
Only 30% of African American graduating high school seniors are eligible for a California four year public institution in Alameda County (California Department of Education, 2014)
Approximately 1 in 3 African American students are at grade level in Math by 8th grade (The State of Education for African American Students, Ed Trust, 2014)
Sponsor a Student!

With your help, we make a difference! Hear it straight from our families:
“The program provides a full range of services that greatly benefitted my students both academically and holistically. The mentors are an integral part of the program and truly give it heart. They take an interest in who the students are as individuals and guide them through the often confusing maze of academics, testing and college-preparedness. They not only help the students, they also help the parents and guardians. They are very focused on keeping everyone informed.”Adilah Bilal, parent.
“The concepts I learned were important, but even more useful were the skills and experiences that I gained in preparation for high school, college, and work. The teachers and the other students created an environment where success was visible and had many faces. As a recent college graduate, I am grateful for this training and preparation that gave me a life of achievement.” Alex Smith, former participant
